So you are looking for an external DVD drive? Well if you have read other reviews as well then you have probably noticed that Samsung is the brand that gets often recommended. There's a good reason for that. The company is just so well known for everything that they do. I mean they are one of the only companies that have managed to give Apple trouble in the smartphone industry. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that they are also the leaders in computer accessories, such as DVD drives. One of their most sold eternal DVD drives is the Samsung SE-S084B model, which is extremely popular on Amazon! DESIGNThe DVD drive doesn't really have anything special going for it in terms of design. It's just a rectangular piece of plastic that is slim enough to be portable but large enough to stay nicely on your desk. You can even choose between different colors, such as black, pink and white. Like I mentioned at the start that the SE-S084B is a pretty basic external DVD drive. It has the standard tray system that slides out when you either eject it from your computer or push the button on the front. That's also the only part that has a ribbed finish instead of smooth plastic. Ah and it's also been colored grey. So I guess that it's not that boring after all. Samsung has done a great job at making it appealing while still keeping it in the background so it doesn't scream look at me. I really like that about Samsung. PERFORMANCEWell again the Samsung SE-S084B works just as well as any other standard high quality external DVD drive. You simply plug it into your computer or laptop USB port. Doesn't matter if it's a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0. The fastest DVD writing and read speeds are capped at a speed that the standard USB 2.0 port can easily handle. Next you make the tray slide out by pushing the button on the front. Place your disc onto the tray, close it and watch it work its magic on your screen. The drive doesn't require any extra drivers to be installed so you don't need to mess around with that. A nice way to save your time. Still for some reason I managed to find some Samsung SE-S084B drivers when I googled it. So if you do run into problems, then you can still download them and everything will be okay. CONCLUSIONSo you see the Samsung SE-S084B is an easy to use and high quality external DVD drive that just works. It does everything that you need from it to do without any complaints. It's the drive that you can count on and don't need to worry about messing up. So if you are looking for a reliable external DVD drive that just looks okay, then I can definitely recommend this one!
When buying laptops nowadays, you soon notice that they don't have an optical drive anymore. This is the standard in this day and age, where everybody want's their devices to be more powerful and thinner than the past models. But soon you'll notice that you can't live without that small optical drive. And that's why we have external DVD drives to thank for. When it comes to portable external DVD drives, there's no other company more known than Transcend. They are the global leader in this technology. And their 8XDVDS is their best selling external DVD writer up to date! EXTERNAL DVD DRIVE REVIEWThe 8XDVDS is a super slim DVD writer that has a dimension of just 148 x 142 x 13.9 mm! It can also read and write both CD and DVD discs. Which makes it an extremely versatile device. The maximum CD writing speed is 24x and the DVD speed goes up to 8x. And the best part, it can also write double layer DVD's as well. So if you have those massive 8.5GB discs, then you can also use them with Transcend as well. There is no job that's too much for this drive! As you can see from the images, the Transcend 8XDVDS has a nice glossy black finish. And like I mentioned before, it's so so slim. The external DVD drive is also a tray load type. The tray is inside the case and slides out when you push the eject button. There is also a green LED light that blinks when the drive is working. You also don't have to worry if you should lose power or anything crashes. There is a small pinhole behind the drive, which can be used to eject the drive even when it isn't powered. As you can tell, the external DVD drive is powered via the USB cable. The cable has two USB ends, which are used to provide extra power to the drive. That's needed if you wish to reach higher writing speeds! CONCLUSIONThe Transcend 8XDVDS is currently available for $29.99 and comes with a one-year warranty. It's fantastic for everyone that has bought a laptop but still has to use DVD discs now and then! It's also a fantastic budget option. Similar DVD drives can cost up to $80 in the Apple store, and they work exactly the same as the Transcend model!
