When buying laptops nowadays, you soon notice that they don't have an optical drive anymore. This is the standard in this day and age, where everybody want's their devices to be more powerful and thinner than the past models. But soon you'll notice that you can't live without that small optical drive. And that's why we have external DVD drives to thank for. When it comes to portable external DVD drives, there's no other company more known than Transcend. They are the global leader in this technology. And their 8XDVDS is their best selling external DVD writer up to date! EXTERNAL DVD DRIVE REVIEWThe 8XDVDS is a super slim DVD writer that has a dimension of just 148 x 142 x 13.9 mm! It can also read and write both CD and DVD discs. Which makes it an extremely versatile device. The maximum CD writing speed is 24x and the DVD speed goes up to 8x. And the best part, it can also write double layer DVD's as well. So if you have those massive 8.5GB discs, then you can also use them with Transcend as well. There is no job that's too much for this drive! As you can see from the images, the Transcend 8XDVDS has a nice glossy black finish. And like I mentioned before, it's so so slim. The external DVD drive is also a tray load type. The tray is inside the case and slides out when you push the eject button. There is also a green LED light that blinks when the drive is working. You also don't have to worry if you should lose power or anything crashes. There is a small pinhole behind the drive, which can be used to eject the drive even when it isn't powered. As you can tell, the external DVD drive is powered via the USB cable. The cable has two USB ends, which are used to provide extra power to the drive. That's needed if you wish to reach higher writing speeds! CONCLUSIONThe Transcend 8XDVDS is currently available for $29.99 and comes with a one-year warranty. It's fantastic for everyone that has bought a laptop but still has to use DVD discs now and then! It's also a fantastic budget option. Similar DVD drives can cost up to $80 in the Apple store, and they work exactly the same as the Transcend model!
